Learner story: Victoria's experience on our Positive Futures Parenting Support course

Victoria decided to join our Positive Futures Parenting Course after being made aware of the course by the City of York Council Local Area Team.

She thought that, as a parent of a child with additional needs, or as Victoria prefers to say, ‘unique needs’ that the course might have some tips on being a “better mum”. She sought to find help to aid bonding between her and her child and ideas that could aid the development of their relationship together and with other people:

I signed up to the course to get help with my child’s anger issues, she has a tendency to be very nice one minute but can change behaviour quickly and become very angry. I was also hoping to get some help with setting boundaries"

Victoria went on to say:

“I have found it to be very informative, I have gained ‘inside information’ on parenting children with behaviour problems and additional needs, it's opened my eyes to how things can be with other children too. I'm a TA and have childcare qualifications but it doesn't prepare you for how your own child can behave.”

Victoria says her favourite part of the course was ”being around the trainers, Sara and Chris, and the rest of the group. we have exchanged numbers and built friendships.”

“It's opened my eyes that I'm not the only parent going through this. It's really reassuring.”

“I would definitely recommend this course even if your children don't have additional needs, there's lots of support for everyone and I’ve loved it.”

“Things are a heck of a lot better at home now. Before I came to this course, when the little one had her anger issues I didn't know what to do or the benefits of doing things differently. Even though I have childcare and TA qualifications, with your own child it's very different. It's been really informative and helpful and I will remember the strategies we have been taught.”
