Help York children learn to read with York Cares
York Cares want to give every child in York the opportunity to develop their reading skills, and they need your help!
Studies show that children who read regularly perform better across the curriculum, developing a broader vocabulary and increasing their general knowledge. Reading aloud improves their ability to understand words, use their imagination and develop their speech.
Yet, many primary school children in deprived areas of York will never get the opportunity to read aloud or receive 1-on-1 support. That’s where you come in.
York Cares' Right to Read programme places volunteers like you in primary schools in need, near to your work or home, and asks that you listen to primary school children read for just one hour per week. The difference you can make to children’s confidence and reading skills is invaluable.
