New Social Enterprise Incubator and Hot-desking Space for York

Brightsparks has joined forced with another of York's leading social enterprises, Social Vision, to create Tribe York, a new hub for businesses that want to do good at the same time as making a profit.

Nestled just off Micklegate, Tribe provides space and support for start up businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators. Members of Tribe are supported by over 100 local business people, who provide two hours per month of support, mentoring and masterclasses, covering a range of topics from accountancy and tax, through to user engagement and marketing.

Tribe Director Andy Simpson said:

“I work closely with dozens of start up enterprises, almost all of whom are lacking the time, money and skills to deal with essential infrastructure such as finance, legal and HR. Tribe allows the City’s best business people to share their considerable time and skills with those starting their journey.”

In return for this support, members must have a social purpose and do something good for the wider community.

Tribe York has social purpose at its heart

Tribe will provide space and support for social entrepreneurs to realise their vision. All members must have a social purpose underpinning their business, and where they don’t, Tribe will work with them to achieve this. Tribe will create stronger, more resilient businesses that are better placed to support the communities in which they work.

Tribe Director Joe Gardham said:

“I have spent over a decade working with businesses and charities across the country, and have witnessed the immense value of collaboration and giving. Using our networks we have over 100 experienced, local business people who want to give a couple of hours a month to support the next generation.”

Local voluntary sector body and host for 2018, York CVS, said:

“We are seeing charities needing to become more entrepreneurial in their approach, whilst many businesses are becoming more socially-conscious. Tribe have really hit the nail on the head with this concept, and both us and our members are really excited.”
